This past Spring Break I took a weeklong trip to Los Angeles to visit my best friend, Andrea. And let me tell you…I love California!!! This was my second time visiting. I also visited September 2014 to catch an Angel’s baseball game with my sports-crazed boyfriend. Andrea moved to L.A. two years ago to become an actress. We’ve been friends since we were 12 yrs. old, and it’s amazing to see how much she’s grown. I believe friendship is extremely important so I tend to keep the same people around – forever. My good friend Zoe, a film/ photography student at FIU, was also visiting from Miami at the time and we got to take a fun road trip to the desert to see the famous Salvation Mountain.

Salvation Mountain – “God Is Love”

Salvation Mountain is a 4.5 hour drive from L.A., near the Salton Sea. The mountain is Leonard Knight’s gift to world in efforts to spread a simple, powerful message: “Love”. He hoped that his message would inspire the world to show more love and compassion to each other. The masterpiece is covered with biblical scripture, flowers, trees, waterfalls, and bluebirds. It was truly inspiring to see this creation up close. We also have this crazy idea that we got good luck from visiting. Since Zoe is a photographer, we decided to do a mini photo-shoot in the middle of the desert. See some photos below:

Since Andrea loves anything that has to do with exhaustion, we went on a few hiking trips.

Scenic Views

Our first challenge was Chantry Flats. It took us a total of five hours to get to our destination and return to the car. When we finally got into the forest we saw so many beautiful creeks and waterfalls. It was a mission, but very worth it.

The next day, we conquered the Culver City Stairs. The Culver City Stairs are located at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook State Park. The stairs have 282 steps. We went up the stairs and around the hiking trail three times. People in L.A. really do live a fit/healthy lifestyle. I was nearly dying at the end of this workout while Andrea was like, “I feel brand new”.

In addition to visiting these amazing places I also ate some really good stuff.

California is amazing. The weather is nice, the food is great, and my best friend said I can visit whenever I’d like. Until next time L.A.

About Melinda

A UCF grad (insert applause here), Melinda first started at &Barr as an intern. Apparently, we liked her enough to offer her a full-time job. She was crazy enough to accept it. And while she claims she’s really just here for the free beverages and the occasional Hot Cheetos-themed birthday party — and who isn’t — we know Melinda really loves doing a job that ranges from collecting digital ad specs to working with media vendors to confirming launch dates to making master status reports to a kazillion other things. Dedicated to delivering the digital goods, Melinda is also committed to maximizing the results of &Barr clients like Rosen Hotels & Resorts, Nemours, Bealls/Burkes Outlets and Sonny’s BBQ. And she accomplishes all this with a great attitude and sparkly personality. Bonus!
